A day in the life of a U.S. Soldier

Day Two: I Didn’t Die

Posted on November 18th, 2009 by Zack

So today begins the summary of day two.

Started off normal, except the cold rain. We started off setting up the trucks and our gear. We had to be at the trucks at 8am. No big deal. Although the Division Command Sergeant Majors bird wasn’t scheduled to land until 0930. Great! An hour and a half to wait and get ready. Well once 6 other birds had came and went this important man finally gets there. Finally! Well come to find out he is riding in my truck. Time to be on our Ps and Qs.

We start rolling out on our mission. Everyone is quite except for when the CSM talks and we answer. No sooner than 5 minutes on the road this man starts cracking jokes with his assistant and us. What a laid back CSM. Talking about fuzzy handcuffs and panties in his laundry. We were bullshitting the whole time.

Well once the mission was over we went on back to JSS War Eagle and the CSM pulled us inside to talk to us. After a lengthy talk he gave 5 people a 1st Cavalry coin. Lucky people. Well on the way out he asked for the crew of his truck to stay behind. Damn we thought. Well he gave us a coin for doing a good job excorting him. That would be my first coin to recieve and have it be a division coin from the CSM himself is a great thing.

So mission two for the day was a late afternoon mission. We went on to Taji to move people around and do maintenance on our trucks. Have to keep them going. In all that was a short mission.

That concludes the day. Stay tuned for tomorrows brief.

Day One: Rainy Mission

Posted on November 17th, 2009 by Zack

Well to start off the blog I will throw up some of todays dealings.

We started the day off it was raining. I got word to be on standby. Rain and Lightning equals no go. Although later in the morning we got word we were rolling.

Well me being new and not realizing I had left my gear where it would get rained on, it was soaked. So I started the day off on a rough note. We briefed and got on the road. Once we got to the site we dropped the pacs off and pulled security. Not so bad I was thinking. Although I am a gunner and had to stay in the truck the whole 4 hours. What fun I thought, this is awesome. Me and my driver bullshitting the whole time.

Well by this time sitting here truck 2 was having electrical issues and was about to die. Sucked because we thought we would have to tow this thing h
